What does The Hotlist do?
The Hotlist is the first geo-social aggregator that gives users a personalized and instant view of things to do today, tomorrow and throughout the week within a local area. The Hotlist makes planning easy, showing people where their friends intend to go, giving users a unique view of their personal social calendar. Their platform aggregates “geo-social” real-time data from Facebook and Twitter with local Yelp reviews and listings to automatically show in one place what’s going on among the user’s network of friends, as well as give insight into the pulse of the crowd at a venue or event.
How are they different?
The Hotlist’s takes what is currently available online to another level by providing users with an unprecedented level of powerful information. Users can find information about not only where their friends are, but also where they intend to go later. Users can also evaluate a venue without having to walk through the doors – accessing venue photos, reviews from friends and guy-to-girl ratios, amongst other information. Now, people will be able to find where the closest action or activity is, in a matter of seconds, rather than relying on less efficient methods like calls and text messages and outdated venue reviews.
Why could The Hotlist be BIG?
The Hotlist synthesizes content from Twitter, Yelp and Facebook, and using its proprietary platform to filter information and make social suggestions using user behavioral patterns. Their site increases social functionality, allowing people to check venue reviews, the current pulse of a venue and what their friends are doing before they head out the door. Users can see the past, present and future scene at venues and data about the crowds attending it. Also, The Hotlist is a content aggregator – regardless of the social networks your friends use to make plans, you can see their activities (and opinions) on The Hotlist.
How they plan to make money:
The Hotlist has a two-pronged business model: user-driven and data-driven. The user-driven model will be traditional online ad revenue and sales leads. The data-driven model is already being monetized and consists of two key parts: venue analytics and venue auctions in which venues bid for actual business vs. clicks.
Our thoughts:
No thoughts at the moment. Very interesting!
