What does Marketmommies.com do?
We provide a place for Mom Owned Businesses to market their companies. As a stay at home mom, I was shocked by how many moms had businesses out of their homes. They relied on word of mouth to market their businesses. Anyone with a background in Marketing knows that word of mouth is an effective marketing tool – but also very slow. I worked in Marketing, PR and TV news for years and knew I could help these moms start and grow their businesses. One day, it just clicked – a yellow pages of Mom Owned Businesses.
How are they different?
Moms want to support other moms. We feel a bond to moms from across the country, regardless if we have met them. I was so happy whenever I found a mom business to support. Marketmommies has created a community of mom business owners, mom bloggers and mom shoppers – who can support each other and help their businesses grow.
Why could Marketmommies.com be BIG?
While Marketmommies is one site now, I see it growing to be a network of local sites – Marketmommies Columbus, Ohio, Marketmommies, Houston, TX… a support and networking group of moms in each city interested in helping each other grow their business. Each local Marketmommies would have a directory of local mom businesses other moms from their city can shop and support.
How they plan to make money:
Right now, our income is from advertising on the site. Even though the directory is free to join, many mom businesses have upgraded their listings to include ads on Marketmommies homepage. As the directory and following gets bigger, I will be able to charge more for those ads. In addition – all of our content right now is free. I would like to eventually charge for spots in our weekly newsletter, product reviews etc when the following becomes bigger. Also – when Marketmommies.com goes local – I would charge a franchise fee or advertising share from the local operator.
Our thoughts:
No thoughts at the moment. Very interesting!
