What does The Give Project do?

At The Give Project we leverage human nature through technology. As simply as possible, we use social networks like Facebook and Twitter to connect people to give freely with one another. The hope is that through a free giving of goods and services, individuals will start to realize that they are worth being given, that they have dignity, and so do those around them.
Everyone has gifts and we see it as our responsibility to connect those gifts with the proper needs and vice versa.
By taking advantage of the vast number of connections social networks offer, we aim to create the worlds first social responsibility network.
At The Give Project we believe in the power of giving. Also, after sitting in a college classroom where 80 percent of the class looks at Facebook instead of listening to the instructor, we believe in the power of social networks as well. We know that through connecting the two, altruism with technology, we can take the internet out of the box of “online” and into the reality of “offline” using it to affect meaningful change in the real world. It’s only a matter of time before it takes off.

How are they different?

Everything the user encounters is free. The business model is built on free giving. We are dedicated to being the connecting force between gifts and needs, people to people, one individual at a time. To our knowledge social networks have never been used in this capacity

Why could The Give Project be BIG?

Think about the college kid who needs a couch for his apartment. There’s someone in his community about to put an old couch in the dumpster because they’re moving and don’t have room for it. The Give Project connects them.
Or what about the child struggling with a subject in school, his parents don’t have money to afford a tutor. There’s a recent graduate who’s not only skilled in this subject but ready and willing to offer help. The Give Project connects them. What if your house burned down and you lost everything. Could there be a single resource where people were offering carpentry, painting, and construction services for free. The Give Project could connect them. The potential is huge because of the number of connections people already share. Posting a gift or need on The Give Project amplifies this message through these already existing connections.

How they plan to make money:

As of now, The Give Project is highly focused on building a community and brand awareness. With that said, the long term goal of the project is to form mutually beneficial partnerships involving creative advertising solutions for major corporations. We want to get big business involved in grassroots giving and we believe that the press they will receive from this has value.

On a side note, The Give Project has what we call the 51/49 rule in which at least 51 percent of any donation or business transaction will always go directly to the people needing goods or services on the site. We don’t want organizations or individuals to simply give us money, so we invite them to participate in the giving process, both to increase their return on investment, (we will create videos and other press of them taking an active role in the giving process), and to get the most altruism out of the actual act of giving.

Our thoughts:

No thoughts at the moment. Very interesting!
