How are they different?

Plume Blue has restructured online dating at multiple layers to offer a very different experience. Most online dating sites have three components that they all construct in the same way: self-representation, discovery of others, and communication. Plume Blue has changed each. The most important, though, is that we’ve modified how people find each other. Our members post and respond to dates. There is no exhaustive search through profiles. On other sites, members communicate with each other, then decide if they want to meet and what they want to do, which inevitably leads to a monotonous lunch or coffee. We’ve reordered the process. Our users post dates (like comedy, a picnic etc) so that the event has been decided in advance. This means that every date will be something fun, which in turn means that even if you dont “click” with your date, youll still have a reasonably good time.

Plume Blue could be big because of the common disenchantment among online daters. Most people don’t like online dating, but have no other options. Plume Blue marries the idea of meeting people with the concept that it can still be fun. The online dating industry is huge and populated by sites that are all fundamentally the same. Plume Blue is different.

How they plan to make money:

Plume Blue will charge a basic and relatively cheap membership fee. We don’t want to fleece our members, but at the same time we’d like them to make an active decision to participate. Additionally, Plume Blue is connecting local businesses with our members to provide date ideas. Eventually this will be monetized as with business subscription plan.

On Yelp or Citysearch, you’d find a review of a great hair salon, or a new gym, and you’d have to scour the comments hoping to find a name. On Betterfly, you know immediately who you should ask for when you get there. With the economy the way it is, service providers are looking for more ways to build their brand and reach new clients. Betterfly answers those needs, with a free service. And who doesn’t like free stuff? We’ve already gotten a tremendous response in just the few months since we launched, and there’s no reason why things shouldn’t continue to grow.

I would love to discuss this over the phone. We plan on making money in numerous ways. One way involves a payment system we will implement in which we will act as a neutral third party and holds the money in escrow until we verify that the service was actually rendered.
