What does GetSweaty.com, Inc. do?

GetSweaty.com is the first video-based website that provides daily physical activity for kids.Use of the site is completely free to kids, parents and teachers.
Upon logging in, kids find a new, different and fun video workout each day called the Daily Sweat. Kids earn points for working out which they can redeem for free prizes.

GetSweaty also has a back-end technology for teachers which allows them to use it on one computer in a group setting (ie the classroom)and with the push of a button, assign points to the entire class. Teachers are also incentivized with a Cash for Cash program.

How are they different?

There’s a lot of talk about the fight against childhood obesity and keeping our kids healthy, however, there are very few practical tools. GetSweaty is available for individual kids to use at home where they can exercise privately – an especially important aspect for those who are overweight or awkward. Or it can be used in group settings (schools, not-for-profits organizations,etc.).

No other website provides high quality daily exercise videos. We not only offer something new each day, the videos are shot for entertainment as well as educational value. The site allows kids to put their own background in each video (workout at the beach today?), keep track of their goals and points on their personalized profile page and learn about health and fitness from a kids perspective.

With PE classes being cut and unfunded physical activity mandates in schools, GetSweaty provides a free and easy- to- use classroom tool.

Why could GetSweaty.com, Inc. be BIG?

GetSweaty is an exciting new way to deliver physical fitness. It is currently in use by individual kids and schools in all 50 states.

We believe GetSweaty has the key elements necessary for success:
• The perfect match of target and advertiser
• Fills a need in the marketplace that is currently unmet
• As a free solution, it has few, if any, obstacles to rapid
growth and adoption
• It can be marketed through third parties, thereby
reducing marketing costs while expediting speed to
market
• It takes advantage of the growth cycle of internet usage
and online advertising spending
• It provides a practical solution to a high-visibility social
issue.

Upon establishing the GetSweaty brand, opportunities for additional revenue streams abound, including merchandise sales, licensing and expansion of the brand to additional targets.

How they plan to make money:

Initially, GetSweaty.com will make its money through advertiser support. It is currently the only advertising opportunity available in the online tween health and fitness space. GetSweaty.com offers a truly unique opportunity for marketers who wish to reach this elusive market, build brand awareness in an authentic manner and create good will.

Country: United States
CEO: Mike O’Brien
Founders: Mike O’Brien
Category: Digital Content (Blogs, Websites) Funding: Seed/Friends & Family
Tags: employment, jobs, recruiting, unemployment, jobseekers, recruiters Employees: 16-30

What does Climber.com do?

Climber.com is recruiter networking site for jobseekers. We target 50k + salary, Bachelor degree or experience equivalent candidates that are domestic in the United States. Jobseekers who become part of Climber’s network are marketed to recruiters and hiring managers, who are actively looking to source qualified candidates.

How are they different?

Unlike most career sites on the web, Climber is not just a job board with postings. Our goal is to connect our jobseekers with actual human beings who are looking to hire. We do this not only through our internal recruiter network, but also create an SEO version of our jobseekers profiles that we index on major search engines such as Google and Yahoo. This then allows our jobseekers to be found by recruiters and hiring managers outside of Climber. In addition to actively marketing our jobseekers, we also provide them with multiple career tools such as a Recruiter Directory, Custom Resume Center and provide partnerships with job boards so they can search multiple sites all in one place.

Why could Climber.com be BIG?

Climber has seen significant growth this year and tripled it’s membership in the first quarter of 2010 alone. The Recruiter Directory, which allows jobseekers to search for the hiring executive at their favorite companies or industries and send them their resume directly thus avoiding the Applicant Tracking System, was launched this year and we have already received success stories of users being hired from it. We are also currently in development of creating and launching a career management section for users to keep track of their job search efforts for the long and short term.

How they plan to make money:

We are currently profitable and charge a month-to-month fee to our jobseekers as well as have different price packages for the recruiters who use our service to source qualified candidates.

Why could WebsitesGiveBack be BIG?

Simply because we do combine good business and goodwill. We are fearless small business advocates and know the downside of this business and how countless small businesses are being mislead and taken advantage of.
Charitable and worthy organizations are experiencing an all-time low in donor assistance. In an economy such as this, conitinuing to give and maintaining is more important than ever. Every little bit helps and we want to do our part and make it grow. We are also very much involved in our community and we walk the talk. We’re passionate advocates for worthy organizations just as much.

How they plan to make money:

By expanding our web design and mission to small business advocacy and social responsiblity awareness through the means of social media and video blogging. We were business owners prior in another very different business and we had to close shop when the economy began to turn. With our experience as entrepreneurs and small business owners, we feel that we can offer insight, advice, experience, and encouragement to others. With this, we hope to overflow and create brand awareness; hence increasing earning potential and charitable contributions.

CEO: Jody Fennell
Founders: Jody Fennell and Ella Dyer

Tags: social commerce, e-stylist, virtual closet, Employees: 2-5

What does Abundant Closet do?

Fashion-Ade.com is a virtual closet and e-stylist tool that helps women get the most out of their closets and empowers them to dress with confidence every day. Women can easily build a virtual closet by either selecting from nearly 100,000 pre-populated garments, or by uploading photos of unique garments to the application. The site’s patent-pending Outfit Engine then suggests combinations that users can rate and share through Facebook and email which in turn generates usage data that Abundant Closet can provide to retailers in the form of Closet Insights reports.

How are they different?

• Users don’t have to spend time uploading photos. Instead, they can build a virtual closet in 15 minutes or less, leveraging the 95,000 garments preloaded into the system

• Fashion-Ade’s patent-pending Outfit Engine allows users to view, rate and share thousands of outfit combinations.

• The Closet Insights tool will help educate retailers and improve their ability to understand their users’ interests and style preferences.

Why could Abundant Closet be BIG?

Fashion-Ade has the potential to make it BIG. American women spend $215 Billion on clothing annually, yet consumer research reveals most wear less than half of what they own, leaving more than $100 Billion worth of garments hanging in a closet, or worse, a thrift store. Fashion-Ade’s patent-pending Outfit Engine helps them utilize more of what they own and presents them with more of what they want: improving ROI on their clothing investments.

At the same time, online retailers in the women’s apparel category – more than 300 at this point – are grabbing an increasingly large slice of the retail pie; online sales as a percentage of overall sales are up 11% in the last year alone. Fashion-Ade presents retailers the opportunity to build relationships even when users are not shopping. Our data mining capabilities give retailers access to market intelligence literally not available anywhere else.

How they plan to make money:

Fashion-Ade will provide user insights reports to retailers for a fee (per user).

What does Agent Anything do?

Agent Anything is the eBay of services:

People can post any service (“Mission”) they need accomplished (errands, tasks, research, anything) onto the website. They can then decide the price they are willing to pay, or they can elect to accept offers from Agents.

Students (“Agents”), using their university ID, can run these Missions in their free time and get paid the full amount offered.

How are they different?

- The Customer has full control over how much they pay.
- Only verified college Students can run Missions, so Customers are helping out Students by helping themselves
- Students can get verified in seconds, so they can start running Missions immediately
- Customers only pay AFTER their Mission has been completed to their satisfaction
- The cost of having someone run a Mission is extremely low

Why could Agent Anything be BIG?

How many people do you know that have plenty of time to do all the little things they have to do in a day?

Pretty much everybody has more on their plate than they can handle on a daily basis. This is a huge problem in our society, not just in terms of productivity and efficiency, but also in terms of stress and well-being. Until now, this problem has never really had an adequate, affordable solution.

With Agent Anything though, people can get help with all of their little tasks: walking the dog, picking-up groceries, moving, finding a vacation condo…Anything!

This isn’t some concierge service that charges $40-50 per hour with a minimum of 18 units of 2 hours each and a 24-hour advanced reservation policy. Agent Anything connects you directly with college students, and with college employment levels lower than they’ve been in years, there are sure to be plenty of students who are available right now and would be happy to take $10-15 to run an errand.

How they plan to make money:

Agent Anything charges a fee for successfully connecting Clients with Agents. It’s not much (e.g. $2.50 for a $10 Mission, $3.50 for a $20 Mission), and again, the Client is only charged AFTER the Mission has been confirmed as successfully accomplished.

This would be like ordering-in dinner. Eating all of it. And then only paying for the food if you liked the meal.

What does StartupDigest do?

We send a curated weekly newsletter of the best startup events in 47 cities and 5 Universities (Stanford, Berkeley, NYU, Princeton, Columbia) around the world

How are they different?

Our newsletter is hand curated by a member of the startup community themselves, we focus on events and short form content, and we tell you what is going on in your localized startup community.

Why could StartupDigest be BIG?

We are reaching a highly influential demographic of mostly geeky dudes who are 25-30, early adopters, and the most socially connected segment of the population. (our audience creates the social technology).

Other publications that reach this audience (INC, Fast Company, Entrepreneur) monetize this audience consistently and well. We can do the same + offer engagement which magazine advertising could never do.

shadowdev.com - Professional Web Development firm specializing in hand-crafted websites Logo Company Shadow Development
http://www.shadowdev.com
Founded: 10/15/2005
City: Waynesville, North Carolina
Country: United States
CEO: Kyle Perkins
Founders: Kyle Perkins
Category: Digital Content (Blogs, Websites) Funding: Bootstrapping
Tags: web programming, engineering, services, hand-crafted Employees: 2-5

What does Shadow Development do?

Specialize in Professional Web Development for small- and mid-sized businesses needing a new or revamped website in order to improve their online presence(s). We also offer marketing services (such as Business Cards, Flyers, and Letterheads) for a more professional touch for our clients.

How are they different?

We hand-craft every website. Instead of using a visual editor (such as FrontPage, DreamWeaver, WordPress, Joomla, etc), we actually hand-code everything. This allows for more customization options, better flexibility, and easier editing for clients. Most visual editors are either expensive, limit your creativity and services, or you have to have a Tech-based degree to operate one. We offer complete website management services to take the hassle of website management off of our client’s hands and makes it easier for them. One less thing off their task list.

We also offer SaaS services, such as ScrumIt (taking scrum-based projcet management to the web) and The College Kiosk.

Why could Shadow Development be BIG?

The market will always be out there for business to get a new website or a revamp to what they have, or they are looking to add to the services they already have. Our plan is to offer a 1-stop management service to customers, in addition to the hand-crafted website in order to create a unique package to offer to customers where as other companies either just offer web design on the side or use a visual editor and charge 5x the price. As our motto says, “Simply Professional, Professionally Simple,” our goal is to make it easy for the customer. Our goal is to become the #1 name people think about when they think “websites”.

How they plan to make money:

We charge on a per-project basis and have a 20% markup for services provided. This allows for reinvesting back into the company, along with giving our employees an earnable profit. The clients pay 50% upfront (so we make sure we can get paid), and pay the rest after services have been provided.
