What does Mutual Mobile do?

In just two years, the Austin-based tech startup has not only garnered the unanimous support of their peers but has also grown a national client list of corporations vying for a piece of the mobile applications market. What began as an iPhone development shop has evolved into a full-service mobile development and marketing agency, winning contracts to produce licensable products and platforms for the Harvard Business Review, Dell, SXSW and StumbleUpon.

How are they different?

We operate at a scale that very few other companies have achieved – 70+ people working exclusively on building premier mobile apps for big brands and enterprise. As a result of this, we can, in most cases, build it better, faster, and sometimes even cheaper.

Having completed over 50 projects, we have a vast internal codebase that ensures speed of development and robustness of components. Additionally, our culture is very focused on innovation and has organically grown a suite of technologies that help us and our clients build bleeding edge apps.

Why could Mutual Mobile be BIG?

To our knowledge, we are the largest dedicated mobile design, dev, strategy shop in the country. We have built applications for almost every industry and have a unique perspective on challenges in mobile development. As a result, we’ve created a series of proprietary technologies that solve common problems.

How they plan to make money:

- By providing the services that can’t be commoditized (top-tier design / dev)

- By licensing technologies we develop

- By creating products and solving needs in enterprise mobility

What does Kony Solutions do?

Kony Solutions provides a suite of products and support services that enable Fortune 500 companies to offer consumers feature-rich mobile applications in less time and at lower costs than any other solution available. Kony’s proprietary Write Once, Run Everywhere single application definition enables applications to be designed and developed just once, in a device independent manner, and deployed across multiple channels, including on-device applications, mobile web, SMS, web gadgets, desktop applications, and mobile operating systems.

How are they different?

Kony Solutions delivers a unique approach to address the challenges of developing brand-consistent mobile applications across a variety of platforms. Different delivery channels and multiple device platforms create a complicated and costly development, management and maintenance problem for companies. The Kony Mobile Application Platform™ leverages the Write Once, Run Everywhere technology for designing, developing, deploying and managing mobile applications. This proprietary application definition enables mobile applications to be developed just once and deployed across all mobile platforms with less time to market and total cost of ownership than individual development solutions. The Kony Mobile Application Platform also optimizes the functions and user experience of a device’s native capabilities to deliver a differentiated, hosted, and managed mobile solution.

Appsense.com - THe Leading Provider of User Virtualization Logo Company AppSense
http://www.appsense.com
Founded: 1999
City: New York, New York
Country: United States
CEO: Charles Sharland
Founders: Charles Sharland
Category: Other Funding: VC
Tags: user virtualization, user profile management, virtual desktop, terminal services, terminal server, citirx, vmware, xendesktop, xenapp Employees: Over 100

What does AppSense do?

AppSense is the leading provider of user virtualization technology to enterprise organizations. User virtualization is a way of managing user-specific information independent of the desktop, and applying this information into any desktop (local install, virtualized, published, streamed etc) on-demand. This enables IT to standardize the desktop build, automate desktop and application delivery, and migrate users to new desktops – all while ensuring the user experience is seamless, personal, predictable and easily manageable.
AppSense technology is used around the world by companies such as JPMorgan Chase, Lowes, United Airlines, Wachovia and ESPN.

How are they different?

AppSense Environment Manager is the only enterprise solution on the market that enables standardized virtual desktop environments to be fully and automatically personalized “on demand”, without cumbersome profiles or scripts. It uniquely decouples corporate policy and personalization data from the desktop, manages them independently and applies them to user devices on-demand.

Why could AppSense be BIG?

With the rise in desktop virtualization, enterprises are looking for technologies that allow them to achieve the greatest ROI. AppSense technology does this by enabling enterprises to receive all of the benefits of desktop virtualization. Specifically, AppSense Environment Manager enables low-cost, standard desktop images to be used to deliver fully configured and personalized desktops to all employees. This ensures maximum user adoption from a standard base image, further reducing desktop management cost, as well the complexity and risk associated with maintaining a large desktop estate.

How they plan to make money:

AppSense plans to make money by selling their software. In 2009, AppSense had a dramatic increase in sales in the south central and southeast regions in the US over the past year, with significant growth in the company’s historically key industries, which included financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and education, along with newer areas of growth such as government.

Netronome.com – Leading Developer of Network Flow Processors

Founded: 2003
City: Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania
Country: United States
CEO: Niel Viljoen
Founders: Niel Viljoen, David Wells, Johann Tonsing
Category: Communications Funding: VC
Tags: semiconductor, network flow processors, secure socket layer, acceleration cards, multicore, heterogeneous Employees: Over 100

What does Netronome do?

Netronome is a leading supplier of highly programmable semiconductor products that are used for intelligent flow processing in network and communications devices. Netronome’s solutions include tightly integrated network flow processors and acceleration cards that scale to more than 20 Gbps. They are used in carrier-grade and enterprise-class communications products, as well as virtualized servers and appliances that require deep packet inspection, flow analysis and content processing, all at very high speeds for millions of simultaneous flows.

How are they different?

Because Netronome’s NFP product line provides scalable network performance up to 40 Gbps along with sophisticated packet and flow classification, in a highly programmable design environment, it provides users with a path to higher performance and software scalability, helping users develop products for next generation networks more cost-effectively and efficiently. In addition, the NFP-32xx is the industry’s first processor designed for unified computing architectures by combining high-performance network, content and security processing with I/O virtualization. As a next generation solution derived from and compatible with the Intel IXP28XX line of network processors, thousands of existing product designs, tens-of-thousands of skilled engineers, and hundreds-millions of lines of code now have an evolutionary path to higher performance and greater intelligent designs.

Why could Netronome be BIG?

Network traffic in both enterprise and carrier networks continues to rise, driving the bandwidth requirements and line rates to 10 Gbps today, and expecting to grow to 40 Gbps and beyond in a few years. With the need for application awareness, content inspection, and security processing, the amount of processing power within the network infrastructure at these ever-increasing line rates is growing exponentially.
Netronome technology features a unique heterogeneous architecture which meets these increasing network demands and does so at a lower cost than other solutions available in the market today.

How they plan to make money:

Netronome plans to make money by selling the NFP and related solutions.
