What does Algrin Technologies Inc. do?

We help retailers and food service companies easily create and communicate their employee work schedules. We give employee the ability to post availabilities and vacations on our site as well as view and swap shifts. Managers can easily take all of this information, and create schedules quicker then ever. Our users have found up to an 80% reduction in scheduling time and an overall improvement in employee moral.

How are they different?

Unlike other ‘business softwares’ we really focus on simplicity and using the best in modern web-design to help make SkedX really simple to use.

Why could Algrin Technologies Inc. be BIG?

We focus on a specific market that is not a focus of the large scheduling companies and is to big for the all the small scheduling companies. We basically want to give our users most of the features and integrations expected in a large ERP system, but for a lot cheaper..

How they plan to make money:

It is a SaaS company. Our prices start at about $3/user per month.

What does SOCO Games do?

SOCO Games develops social media games on the Facebook platform.

How are they different?

Over and above creating top-tier games and creating a loyal player base, we also have integrated a social conscience into how our games are built and into how we conduct business. Within each game there is a automated mechanism that automatically extracts a percentage of revenue and puts it into the SOCO Games Players Fund. The Fund Supports over 30 organizations around the world.

Why could SOCO Games be BIG?

Simply the size of the market, 500 million people and growing is enough to indicate the potential for large growth. Games have grown from zero to millions in annual revenue in a matter of months. Initial reviews and reaction from players indicate that Earth 2.0 is very competitive in this space.

How they plan to make money:

The business model is simple. Players can inhance there game experience and strengthen their character with game credits. They can earn credits by completing tasks in the game or they can speed this process up by buying game credits with real world money or through completing “offers” such as filling out a survey or watching a video.

Betterfly.com – Be Better. At Anything.

betterfly.com - Be Better. At Anything. Logo Company Betterfly
http://betterfly.com/
Founded: 2009
City: New York City, New York
Country: United States
CEO: Joshua Schwadron
Founders: Joshua Schwadron
Category: Other Funding: VC
Tags: Local, Social, Lifestyle, Hobbies, Leisure, Fitness, Self-Improvement, Employees: 6-15

What does Betterfly do?

Betterfly is the easy way to find the people – not companies- to help you learn, look and feel better. Betterfly excludes companies to focus only on people, making it easier and more efficient to find the right person to help you learn, look and feel better in over 1,000 ways, from Accordion to Zumba.

How are they different?

The company feels that excluding companies from the search gives it a competitive advantage by allowing its users to search with more specificity and allowing users to compare apples to apples, people to people.

We also have live booking on our site so users can book appointments in real time!

Why could Betterfly be BIG?

Betterfly is set up to be the ultimate consumer guide to personal betterment. On Betterfly, they can find people that are best suited to their personal criteria, and read what others have to say about their experiences. When trying to perfect your French pickup lines you’ll be working with Jacques the French teacher, not the whole Je Parle Français School. On Yelp or Citysearch, you’d find a review of a great hair salon, or a new gym, and you’d have to scour the comments hoping to find a name. On Betterfly, you know immediately who you should ask for when you get there. With the economy the way it is, service providers are looking for more ways to build their brand and reach new clients. Betterfly answers those needs, with a free service. And who doesn’t like free stuff? We’ve already gotten a tremendous response in just the few months since we launched, and there’s no reason why things shouldn’t continue to grow.

How they plan to make money:

I would love to discuss this over the phone. We plan on making money in numerous ways. One way involves a payment system we will implement in which we will act as a neutral third party and holds the money in escrow until we verify that the service was actually rendered.

Dijipop.com – Rearchitecting Digital Shelf Space

dijipop.com - rearchitecting digital shelf space Logo Company DiJiPOP
http://www.dijipop.com
Founded: 10/01/2009
City: Providence, Rhode Island
Country: United States
CEO: Ji Kim
Founders: Ji Kim
Category: Marketing/Advertising Funding: Self-Funded
Tags: Employees: 6-15

What does DiJiPOP do?

DiJiPOP has created an on-demand software platform that allows products/brands to more effectively place ads on e-tailer websites. It’s a “win – win” for both the brand AND e-tailer. Why? Because e-tailers are failing at making use of the unused digital shelf space on their sites. And brands have more control where there products are featured.

How are they different?

Brand campaigns can be managed through one interface to all e-tailers. E-tailers don’t have to invest in expensive technology to make this happen.

Why could DiJiPOP be BIG?

Because brands will now have control where their products can be placed and e-tailers can immediately make more money from brands who will advertise on their site.

How they plan to make money:

Products that are featured on an e-tailer using the DiJiPOP platform and then sold to consumers is the revenue stream.

Yummly.com - The most intelligent way to search for recipes. Logo Company Yummly
http://www.yummly.com
Founded: January 2009
City: Palo Alto, California
Country: United States
CEO: David Feller
Founders: David Feller, Vadim Geshel
Category: Web Apps/Tools/Widgets Funding: VC
Tags: social web, web 2.0, semantic search, recipes, food Employees: 6-15

What does Yummly do?

First there was Netflix for movies, then came Pandora for music. Now there’s Yummly.com for food and cooking. Founded in 2009 by internet startup veteran David Feller, who held key positions with Half.com, StumbleUpon and eBay, the company is pioneering semantic search for recipes.

How are they different?

Yummly is the first cooking website to apply algorithms and semantic search to recipe and food search.

Yummly uniquely ‘understands’ food on a variety of levels (taste, ingredient, dietary appropriateness, potential allergens, etc.) and ‘learns’ about users based on their likes and dislikes, developing a deeper understanding each time they use it. This enables Yummly to make personalized recipe suggestions containing only those foods the user want.

Why could Yummly be BIG?

Designed with simplicity and usability in mind, Yummly marries high tech with common sense to provide a vastly improved user experience over other cooking sites. The result is a platform that’s fun and easy to navigate for cooks of every skill level, and makes discovering and customizing recipes a snap.

With more than half of American households cooking at home more frequently, Yummly is a much-needed tool in any kitchen. It’s what online recipe search has been lacking for quite some time.

How they plan to make money:

Yummly is currently exploring different monetization and revenue models.

AboutOne.com – Precious Memories and Household Information

Posted by admin On November - 3 - 2010
AboutOne.com - Helping You Manage What Matters Most: Precious Memories and Household Information Logo Company AboutOne.com
http://www.aboutone.com
Founded: 12/15/2008
City: Malvern, Pennsylvania
Country: United States
CEO: Joanne Lang
Founders: Joanne Lang
Category: Web Apps/Tools/Widgets Funding: Bootstrapping
Tags: saving time, saving money, preserving memories, digital scrapbooking, online health records, home records organizer, education records, baby books, contact management, informed decisions, emergency preparedness Employees: 6-15

What does AboutOne.com do?

AboutOne is an online family information management system for people who don’t want to spend time on record-keeping, yet want to preserve memories and MUST have access to household information when certain life events occur, like having a baby, moving, applying to college, changing doctors, or a medical or other emergency.

AboutOne provides ONE place, accessible anytime, anywhere, from any device, where in just seconds you can store and manage what matters most: precious memories and household information (health records, education records, possession details, contact information, to name a few).

AboutOne stores the information with bank-level security. Then, the system automatically uses this information so you save time on family administrative chores like completing school forms, college apps, caregiver instructions, and tax returns, and creating family newsletters, scrapbooks, and hardcover memory books, and creating and mailing holiday cards. The information is also available, at your fingertips, to make informed decisions and respond quickly to an emergency.

How are they different?

Currently people store and manage memories and household information in 1 of 3 ways:

1) Do nothing or manual paper-based filing – neither solution addresses digitally organizing & preserving
data & making it accessible anywhere in seconds.

2) PC-based apps requiring more technical understanding &
need to backup data. These solutions do not address issue of being able to access data at anytime, from any location, plus, there is often a need to redundantly enter data across the various apps, and the data is vulnerable to loss if backup procedures aren’t followed.

3) On-demand tools including mobile and other SaaS apps are also used, but these are silos of data and require the user to manage multiple apps, which again means redundant data entry and a lack of synergy in data use.

With AboutOne, information is digitally organized and preserved, and accessible anywhere in seconds. Data is stored with bank-level security, and backed up hourly. Each unique piece of data must only be entered once. AboutOne automatically leverages the time spent entering data by synergistically using it across the system so you save time on activities that require you to access this data.

Why could AboutOne.com be BIG?

AboutOne is a consumer SaaS model targeted at moms, caregivers, military spouses, expats and corp HR departments:
Moms – 56m (grows by 4m/yr)
Caregiver – 44m (w/special needs & elderly)
Military – 1.5m (PCSing & deployed)
Corporate – 9m (Expats, HR benefit)

How they plan to make money:

AboutOne is a $30/yr subscription-based app. We will generate additional revenue streams from affiliate programs, targeted advertising, lead generation, white label products, resale of partner products, & corporate licenses as an employee HR benefit.

Our thoughts:

Great concept! Really appreciate what you are doing.
